Did You Know?
Each old vehicle scrapped keeps an average of more than five tonnes of greenhouse gases out of our air every year.
Climate Action Helps Clear the Air
As part of its plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent by 2020, B.C. has
introduced legislation for strict tailpipe emission standards for all new vehicles sold in the
province. These standards are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles
by 30 per cent. They will also help to reduce air pollutants from fossil fuel combustion, which is a
leading source of ground-level ozone precursors and a significant contributor to fine particulate
matter.
